and it would be putting our grant money to good work in our community.
He suggested instead of the reduced amount we have been giving this past year,
that we grant the full amount requested for this grant which would be $1,500.

Cole made a motion, Heather seconded, and all approved for $1,500 for this grant.
Jackie had mentioned that the Roscommon Rotary Club
gave $500 to this foundation with their Happy Cash.

Jackie also mentioned that UPS Ed
received employee of the year, from UPS in 2013.
Jackie and Rhonda talked about UPS Ed and his
contributions to his community and the world.

Gary  Chenoweth – District Governor
Gary passed out pins to us with the theme for 2021 which is “Serve to Change Lives”.
Gary asked Heather how she plans to release information for media
use regarding the Grant Recipients. Heather said that she shares photos
and information first with the club in the weekly minutes, then shares this same information on the HL Rotary facebook page and finally with the local paper, The Houghton Lake Resorter.

Susan then talked about our covid year, and how the younger members
of the club stepped up to coordinate fundraising so the club could
still give out community grants.   Since April we’ve had 7 new members,
2 resignations, and 3 of our new members are 27 years old.
We continue to add younger members to help invigorate our club.
While reviewing the club report, we went from 27 to 34
in members from 2020 to 2021. Susan talked about how we updated our
Bylaws and our Club Report within the past year.
We are also updating our brochure with Koreen.

Gary then talked about Club Runner and asked us to 4
add a photo in club runner to our profile.
Heather then suggested that she could send the club instructions
on how to add an image to their profile.

Jackie and Gary talked about using club runner and how it’s made
it easy for the club to manage emailing.
Gary would like Heather to forward the minutes so he can see how
we are using club runner for communication.
Gary looked through our minutes from our last club
meeting and commented that they were very nice and he liked our pictures.

We talked about the Thanksgiving Graham/Grover Elks Dinner.
Russ Graham was one of our Rotarians and he donated a lot of product
and Matt Grover, who owned a restaurant, is the other person
who started this dinner. A lot of Elk Members and Rotarian help with it.
Bill Oliver does all the mapping for it.

Gary talked about needing help in promoting what other clubs
are doing for Service Projects and requested that Heather send images
of the work our club would be doing over Thanksgiving.
Susan talked about stuff the bus and our award from the chamber.
Rhonda talked about the article she is writing for the Rotarian about Stuff the Bus.
Gary talked about the different program set up for kids,
which is Interact, Middle Act, and Early Act.

Jackie talked about how each President brings something
different to the club each year. Everyone brings something new or a passion
when they are President.

Gary talked about Rotaract in Holland-
The Lakeshore United Community Rotaract club.
At Hope College, the Alumni (Holland) have formed a Rotaract Club.
They are very diverse and welcoming to everyone who would like to join.
Russ is who started the club and was able to induct 15-16 members.
Rotaract is the gap between Interact and becoming a Rotarian.

Jackie mentioned how much she liked the Theme this
year which is “Serve to Change Lives”.

Gary then continued to discuss Rotaract and that
they are typically 18-30 years old in other countries.
Then, when they are 30 they decide if they want to go
into a Rotary Club and often choose to stay into the Rotaract Club.

This is Gary’s 53rd visit. Gary is helping rebrand a few clubs that are ageing out and identifying needs for the community. Gary has 6 more visits, 4 of which are Canadian. Gary shared that they have a Swan Race that is put on by the Chamber in his community. Susan talked about the car show and we closed the meeting.
