April 5, 2023 Meeting

Meeting called to order at Buccilli’s @ 12:12pm

Approval of 3/22/23 Meeting Minutes
Meeting minutes approved. Motion by Barb, second by Jim.
 
Membership Dues
Membership dues invoices have been sent out by Ben. He has been in communication with a few members. Dues can be paid by cash, check, or electronic payment. Paying by check is the preferred payment option. Dues are due to Ben by May 1st .

Adopt-A-Highway Sign Up
The Spring clean up is April 23-20. We have the same 5 zones as in the past. The sign-up sheet was distributed. Diane will being vests and bags to next weeks meeting. It was mentioned that this is the same week as the auction so clean up may need to happen the next week which the group agreed was okay.
Business Expo - April 26th
The Business Expo is being held April 26 at the Northern Event Center from 4-7 pm. Vendor networking will be from 3-4 pm. Heather will be there and would like at least two people to attend. If you are interested in attending please contact Heather.

Update from El Salvador Trip
Heather has gotten may email updates from the El Salvador trip in the form of emails and photos.
Heather shared a few photos with the group and read a couple personal experiences shared by two
students.
 
Understand Rotary Foundation Points
Heather distributed a copy of this flyer to members present. She stated that half of our members in the last three years are new members. Our club is unique in that we include Every Rotarian, Every Year $100 in our dues and that allows up to qualify for district matching grants. The $100 also counts towards and
individuals Paul Harris Fellow designation. Points are accumulated on a club basis and our club uses points to recognize the outgoing president as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Deb Rosczyk - Roscommon County Literacy
Council Presentation
Deb shared that she has been with the council for 28 years. Michelle Ewald is going to be taking over. The program started in 1990 with a Michigan Works employee for tutoring adults. The program is offered to all of Roscommon County. The Dolly Parton program started in 2009. The program has served as many as 555 children. The council’s cost to support one child is $25.00 per child per year. The child receives one book per month from birth to age 5. The council will be having a used book sale this
summer and will share the information with Heather.
Roscommon Literacy Council Grant Presentation
A check was presented to Deb Rosczyk in the amount of $1,000.
 
Auction Update
Rita distributed the Auction assignment list to those who were present. Her focus right now is procurements being turned in by April 15. You can turn in the procurements sheets even if you don’t
have the items. We will have the U-Haul truck at Buccillis on April 19 for Rotarians to drop off their procurements. Jim will then take the truck to Walmart. To date we have sold 48 tickets. Rita is asking everyone to please promote the event. Go to the Houghton Lake Rotary Facebook page and share it to your personal page. The event will be on the Denton Township sign 2 weeks before the event and the HL Resort will run a press release. Still need to finalize the menu. The program will have a QR code that will
take people to a list of the auction items and their location. Next week we will discuss what needs to happen the week of the auction (Sunday-Wednesday). Rita shared we have gotten some great procurements so far. Please also bring your barrel of booze donation and any wine you may have fore the wine pull which will have 50 bottles of wine.

 $1 – Diane shared that she applied for and received a school-based health center grant for Coleman schools.
