2016-2017 Rotary Club of Houghton Lake President Jim VanSice "passed the gavel" to 2017-2018 Rotary Club of Houghton Lake President Denise Stefanko at the June 27th Rotary meeting. Jim thanked the club for a great year that saw $40,000 raised during the annual Community Service Auction, $15,000 in grants provided to local organizations and projects, $4,250 in scholarships awarded to local students, $2,000 donated in support of Rotary's Polio Plus campaign, and $3,000 presented in support of the Houghton Lake Interact Club trip to El Salvador. Jim, an 10-year member of the Rotary Club of Houghton Lake and manager of the Houghton Lake Walmart noted "This has been one of the most humbling things I've done. To see what we can do as individuals and what we can give back to the community is second to none". Jim also recognized Rotarians for "Service Above Self" support through the year before handing Presidential responsibilities of the club over to Rotarian and Owner/Operator of Morning Glory Mercantile, Denise Stefanko.
